LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2013
LEGO has released on official press release regarding the highly anticipated upcoming LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja theme:
"The LEGO Group and Nickelodeon Announce Expanded Global Partnership to Bring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the Construction Toy Category
-Construction Toy Collection to Launch in January 2013-
BILLUND, Denmark, Oct. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — The LEGO Group, makers of the world’s leading construction toys, and Nickelodeon, one of the world’s leading entertainment brands for kids, announced today an expansion of their global partnership to develop construction toys inspired by the recently launched CG-animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles television series. The collection is slated to launch in North America and the UK in January 2013 and will roll out in global markets later in the year. The companies have a long-standing relationship and first partnered together in 2006 to create LEGO® SpongeBob Squarepants. Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premiered on Sept. 29 and was an instant hit, drawing almost 12 million viewers during its premiere weekend.
LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brings the action-packed adventures of Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael and Leonardo to life in LEGO form with a series of vehicles, renowned scenes and iconic LEGO minifigures. One playset and select minifigures from the forthcoming line will be unveiled at the LEGO booth #1538 at New York Comic-Con at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from October 11-14.
“We are thrilled to partner again with Nickelodeon to help bring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to a new generation of kids,” said Jill Wilfert, vice president, licensing and entertainment for The LEGO Group. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles seamlessly combines action and comedy and Nickelodeon is brilliantly balancing what was great about the original property while still making it feel fresh. No doubt fans and builders alike will love the LEGO products our team has created.”
“Following the triumphant return to TV of Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles we’re very excited to expand our connection with our audience and fans through stellar creative play with one of the most respected and admired brands in the world: LEGO,” said Manuel Torres, Senior Vice President Global Toys and Electronics for Nickelodeon. “LEGO’s system of play combined with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle power will lend itself to hours and hours of creativity and fun for kids and families around the globe.”
The series begins as the turtles emerge from their hidden lair in the sewers for the very first time, ready to confront the wondrous and hostile world of New York City and face enemies more dangerous and pizza more delicious than anything they could have imagined. Funnier and with more ninjutsu than ever before, the show will explore the companionship of four teenage brothers learning to rely on themselves and one another as they unravel the mystery of their existence and grow to become the heroes in a half-shell that they are destined to be. The premiere episode was executive produced by Ciro Nieli, Joshua Sternin & J.R. Ventimilia and Peter Hastings.
The 26-episode, half-hour action-comedy series breathes new life into the wildly popular band of reptile brothers played by Jason Biggs (American Pie) as “Leonardo,” Rob Paulsen (Planet Sheen) as “Donatello” (Paulsen also voiced the original “Raphael” from 1987-1996 in the very first TMNT series), Greg Cipes (Teen Titans) as “Michelangelo” and Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings) as “Raphael.” The series airs regularly on Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. (ET/PT).
Considered one of the most popular kids’ television programs of the 1980s, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a classic, global property created in 1984 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. It first debuted as a successful comic book series and then became a hit animated TV show, a live-action television series and later spawned four blockbuster theatrical releases. The property also has translated into a significant consumer products business–with DVDs, video games, toys and more–that has generated billions of dollars at retail.

Lego has an abundance of 2x2 pizza tiles and this is their way of getting rid of them...
Pretty cool sets in my head-can't wait to see them. Probably the van, sewer home and a Shredder dojo or something? will Bebop and Rocksteady be minifigs?

this seems to be an excellent and reasonable transition from Ninjago.

Re: LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2013
The thing we might have to worry about is that this theme is most likely based on the current incarnation of the TMNT cartoon. Most of us here are older, and grew up with a possibly much different TMNT (I don't know for certain, I haven't seen the new one). It might suffer from a mild case of 'Clone Wars' syndrome.
But it's too soon to speculate this much without photos. I, for one, am excited regardless. TMNT to me is like LotR to some of the folks here lol.

I'm thinking "maxifigs" a la Cave Troll, Dinos, Rancor.legogod wrote: will Bebop and Rocksteady be minifigs?
Honestly I don't love the maxifig format and wish they would make big figs out of more, smaller parts that could be reused, or at least put more stud or other connect points on them, but LEGO has clearly committed to this "action figure"-ish style.
Re: LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2013
I strongly agree. I wasn't much of a fan for Ninjago.vynsane wrote:Could be the quoted "theme that will make [us] wish they had canceled Ninjago sooner".ezra wrote:this seems to be an excellent and reasonable transition from Ninjago.

Re: LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2013
I was just a couple years to old to like TMNT when I was a kid. That being said I had not heard of the new TMNT that some have mentioned in this thread.
Here is the trailer for the new TMNT I found on youtube in case anyone else is interested.

Frankly I loved Ninjago, it was full of awesome ridiculousness and great parts. I surely didn't want it to end sooner for TMNT... or any other theme for that matter. The quote was from youtube video posted a while back:ezra wrote:I strongly agree. I wasn't much of a fan for Ninjago.

Re: LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2013
I love Ninjago too, and 'awesome ridiculousness', as vynsane so eloquently put it, is the absolute best description there is for the theme. It was like they embraced all the things your average 8-12 year old boy would like, mashed them all together, and came out with a really fun series of sets. And the fact that it was grounded with NINJAS just made it work. Defintely sad to see it come to an end, but at the same time, I don't want to see it dragged out and milked dry. I almost wish that Epic Dragon Battle was the final set of the series, because it'll be hard to top!
Back on topic, I'm anxious to see what TMNT is gonna look like. There's definitely plenty of source material to make sets out of, but the look of the minifigs will be key. If the four turtles look great, then I think this theme will be a hit, regardless of what incarnation of TMNT we're fans of.

I wasn't a hard core fan of the Turtles, but I would definitely love to see them LEGO-ized. Expecially if they are true to the 90's cartoon version.

I figure they will most likely be based on the new TMNT series and not the 90's...I posted a link to the 2012 TMNT trailer a couple posts up. They definitely look different than the old ones.hatcher wrote:I wasn't a hard core fan of the Turtles, but I would definitely love to see them LEGO-ized. Re: LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2013
I don't know about the new series but the old one didn't have that many characters. I was a huge TMNT fan from the comic books. One thing for sure, I want another VW bus.

I was a pretty big fan of the cartoon back in the day, and the movies too. Can't wait to see what this new one is like, and the LEGOs too.

The Krang is kinda bumming me out. It could've been super cool -- Oversize like a troll but with a clear belly and a specially printed Krang brain head. Not just a print on a torso of a regular minifig! Not feeling the Splinter, either.
But the Shredder and the turtles look great!
