[MOC] Macross/Robotech Armored Valkyrie "Urban Camo" Version

Post by daikoncat » Mon Jun 03, 2013 10:38 pm

The GBP-1S Ground-combat protector weapon system is the ultimate upgrade for the VF-1 Valkyrie fighter! This MOC is a full armor system that attaches to my existing VF-1S Valkyrie LEGO model without the need to remove any major parts. The armor features an impressive array of artillery which includes 12 separate missile bays.

Fantastic armor pack! And I love the VF-1S too - I would definitely buy one. It looks sleeker to me than the one with 7000+ votes on the cuusoo front page right now.

I fear that any Macross/Robotech effort on cuusoo is doomed due to licensing woes, though. :(

The armor suit was cool. VF-1S ,which was my favourite Valkyrie, looks great after gearing it up.

Thank you for the feedback! Yes I agree, but I still would like to give it a chance. The whole Macross/Robotech licensing thing is really complicated. From what I understand, Macross cannot be marketed outside of Japan, as Harmony Gold took control of the rights to market it as Robotech, outside of Japan.

I like both IP's equally though, and I would love to see either one of them become an official set. I originally included both IP's when I created the project, but I found my project was being confused with the other. So to give my project a chance to get some exposure, I renamed it to be Robotech specifically.

Oh, I had forgot to mention. Thank you Toys N Bricks for sharing my creation on the front page! :-)

And thank you all for the comments.

If this project does reach 10k votes, I wouldn't want the supporters to be disappointed. So if the goal of 10k votes is achieved, and regardless of if it is selected to be an official set or not... I'll create the instructions for the VF-1S and make them public. I just want my project to have a chance, to be considered a real LEGO set.

I think you mean Jetfire. Grimlock was one of the Dinobots, the T-rex I think.

This is definitely the sort of thing I want to see coming out of Cuusoo (and I have voted for it), but I have to agree with Herodotus that the licensing is the likely stumbling block. Lego doesn't seem to mind throwing money at gaining licenses these days (SW, Lone Ranger, POTC, Marvel & DC, Toy Story, Cars, Spongebob, PoP... ) but all them are them are IP that are currently or recently in the mainstream. The only way TLG would invest in Macross/Robotech is if the story got a reboot for the current generation. And with the proposed Robotech live action movie seemingly shelved, I can't see that happening.

I hope daikoncat can make instructions available for this, even for a reasonable price. I'd be all over that.

Thanks for the support!!

There is still a possibility of a the new live action movie coming out (the last news I heard was Jan of this year), but not anytime soon, so I am not counting on that. Still, i just want my project to have a chance.

But like I said, if it makes 10,000 votes, as an appreciation to those who have supported it. I'll put the instructions together and post it on my website (http://www.daikoncat.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), even if it doesn't get chosen to become an official set.

Btw, I can see why skeet318 thought the model looked like Grimlock. With the full armor, the model almost has the same color scheme as Grimlock, and the head looks a little like him as well. But you are right, Jetfire used to be the VF-1S (The transformers Version of the Macross 1/55 Toy). ;-)

Oh, and on the topic of a Robotech live-action movie, I hope it turns out to be something like this and not a horrible re-hash :p

Tight build to manage not only the original, but the upgrade. Kudos.
