Lego Beats Hasbro as World’s No. 2

LEGO executed pretty well with their line up. At the same time Hasbro completely fell apart with their #1 license: Star Wars. They not only plagued the pegs with a bad line up, they under delivered the items that had high demand. Items selling up to 7x their retail price immediately on the after market really means they did not deliver to satisfy demand. And worst of all, even when the peg warmers sold through, Hasbro had nothing to offer. The pegs were left empty for months. Then the Star Wars Angry Birds came. Were they just wasting all their time with that garbage? They claim they have high sales with it. I see it in reality shuffle to the clearance section.

I don't know if it had anything to do with the Disney transition, but the problems happened way before the announcement. Hasbro has a chance to come back. They are finally releasing new some-what desirable product. They need to keep executing, but we already see bad choices again for case assortment.

To make things worse, Transformers are doing "Beast" stuff again. Which seems to only be for a niche and/or just kids.

LEGO could be doing better if they stuck with their Ninjago line longer. Chima does not seem to have the same appeal.

I'm pretty sure Ninjago will be back next year, and I also believe that was decided before they realized Chima doesn't have the same level of appeal (or at least everything I have seen seems to say that it doesn't).

Chima might have a bigger appeal to me personally if they make the beavers featured in the online video.

Kudos to Lego for tromping the competition.

LEGO hinted at that the NinjaGo theme isn't selling anywhere close to how it used to (bring back snakes) and that 40% of all their sales were based on new themes and ideas. Brickset had an article about it months back.

Yeah, they appear to be doing well. Here is an idea. Lets send some loyal customers a 10 percent off coupon but not let them use it for any of the good sets they would like to apply it to. Wouldn't want to cut into that profit. You know because they seem to be struggling so much ;)
